Definitely. Poets are usually influenced by their surroundings and events which are happening during their time of writing. Things that happened 100 years ago aren't happening now so many contemporary poets do not familiarize with the same subjects. 100 years ago poets were writing about the war and the dislocation they had from society. As technology has evolved, so has the subject matter in poetry as many modern poets tend to write about the future, as we now live in a society which is always thinking about tomorrow rather than 100 years ago when they used to think only days in advance.
