I once heard an explanation of a speech which went like this.

When asked to explain his technique for getting his message across, the speaker explained it thus:

First of all, I tell them what I am going to tell them.

Next I tell them.

Finally, I tell them what I have just told them!

I guess this indicates that there are three parts to a speech.

1. The introduction. What the purpose of the speech is.

2. The content. The main message to be conveyed

3. The summary. Reminds the audience what the speech was about.
