Is it really over when the fat lady sings?

Answer 1

contrary to widespread belief this is not actually known for a fact

all that is truly known is that it isn't over til she does

& indeed only when she finally does will it be truly known to be so or not

moreover if she sings

in a forest let say us

& there is nobody there any more to hear her because it is over

nor even any trees left to fall & be heard by anyone

then will she really have sung or they really have fallen at all

Answer 2

The phrase "It's not over till the fat lady sings" means that an event is not yet concluded until it is truly finished, or until the decisive moment has passed. It emphasizes the unpredictability of outcomes until the very end.
