Poseidon was the lord of the seas. He was 2nd in power to Zeus and quite determined and ambitious. He also wasn't one to anger for he is very aggressive. His aggressiveness is shown in the "Odyssey" when Poseidon punishes Odysseus and his crew for blinding his Cyclops, paying no attention that his Cyclops had shipwrecked and ransacked Odysseus and were now planning to eat him and his crew! This punishment lasted 8 years by Poseidon throwing out sea monsters and storms. (A perfect example of His power)

When Poseidon and his brothers overthrew the Titans, They drew cards to determine whom ruled what, and Poseidon got the Ocean. They all agreed to share the power of the earth, however, the most responsibility. Soon after, he constructed an underwater magnificent palace for himself. In addition to that, he created 2 white horses to move his chariot through the ocean.

In the beginnings of Zeus's rule, he did not rule to well, and the other gods were displeased. Because of this, Poseidon decided to ban together the other gods and try to overthrow Zeus. However, they were unsuccessful for Zeus easily got away after they captured and immobilized him. Zeus then punished Poseidon by banishing him and then sending him to work on the walls of troy disguised as mortals. The king of troy said he would give Poseidon and Apollo (who was also banished) gold. However the king failed to keep his promise, which, of course, infuriated Poseidon, who then sent a sea monster to destroy it, but, unfortunately, was slayed by Hercules.
