All good British poems were those written before 1940, which are numerous and countless in numbers. Since 1940, practically no good poems were written there, good poems meaning here those which conform to the accepted and conventional metrical standards and those which are fit to be sung. This turning point of saying farewell to the writing of good poems, was due to the disruption of the tranquillity and easiness of sensitive minds everywhere, caused by the World War. A bird's eye wiew of the pre and post war poetry in Britain lucidates the argument that richness of imagery and musical mellowness has dwindled there as everywhere else since those crucial cut-off years. It is to be assumed that that great turbulence has not yet abated.
