If you have an understanding of Australian idiom and slang, A.B.'Banjo' Paterson was a famous Australian balladeer. He was known for writing what we call "Bush Ballads". He wrote "Mulga Bill's Bicycle", which is very easy to explain, and the well-known "The Man From Snowy River". Copies of the ballads are listed at the weblink below.

Using poetry to tell a tale has its good and bad points. the only one I can think of that is a Fairy tale- as opposed to a plotted song like (Indiana Wants Me!) would be The Pied Piper of Hamelin. bad guy gets away with horrible crime. I never liked it for this reason alone.
