Blue is usually thought to have a sad quality. "Singing the blues."
Picasso's blue period seems sad.
Adding to what you said I've found that in the early 1500s is when blue started meaning sad,at that time it meant woeful. Also I have found that in the 1800s it meant depression.Although I have no idea why it means sad this might help on something.
I'm also adding~I think the color of sadness is violet; or blue-purple. You know why? Because blue is usually the stereo-type for sadness, and purple means drama. So purple with blue mixed together is dramatic sadness. Besides, pale violet looks like a very sad color to me. OR just plain violet.
Blue of course.
Azure or cobalt for the colour itself. Sad for the emotion.
Blue... his blue period was 1901 - 1904.

When he's happy it can vary between green and blue, however when he's angry/sad it can change between red and orange
sad sad sad sad
When you ask someone how they are feeling and they say "A little blue" they mean they are feeling a bit sad. When you are mixing a green colour and your art teacher says add "a little blue" it means the colour is somewhat unbalanced in the direction of yellow and a small amount of blue pigment will correct the problem. When you are asked about the roan you are riding, "a little blue" means your horse is a grey colour.
