There is many versions but in Beowulf: A New Telling by Robert Nye she takes Aschere's body, Unferth, and Grendel's arm.
Grendel's Claw (Arm) & Hroghgar's Closest Friend
Grendel's mother takes only one soldier from Herot as vengeance for her son Grendel's death. She wants to inflict pain and create fear among the people of Herot after the loss of her son. Taking a single soldier can also be seen as a calculated move to emphasize her power and dominance.

Underwater, in a lake.
Beowulf and Grendel's mother fought in her underwater lair at the bottom of a dark, eerie mere (a kind of lake). The battle took place in the depths of the water, adding to the suspense and danger of the encounter.

Grendel's trip is miserable because Grendel carries God's wrath. He is joyless and is aggrivated by the men of Herot who celebrate often. He was spawned from evil creatures and has only disappointment and anger to deal with. Grendel does not like the celebrations because of the noise.
