Island of Flowers
In August 1770, Lieutenant James Cook (later Captain Cook) took possession of the eastern seaboard of Australia from Possession Island. Possession Island lies in Torres Strait, and after charting much of the eastern coast, Cook landed on what is now called Possession Island, and claimed, as he recorded, "the whole eastern coast, from latitude 38 degrees S to this place, latitude 10.5 degrees S, in right of His Majesty King George the Third". He claimed it for Great Britain under the name of New South Wales.

Capital Island does not have a special flower.

Flores is simply a last name, and a Spanish word for (flowers). It is obviously of Spanish origin. Florida- originally a Spanish Colony- lit means Land of Flowers, and was originally Florida Pasqua- or Flowery Easter- Land was discovered in in the Easter tide. ( so there are Christmas Islands ( two of them) why not- do not confuse with Easter Island of stone statues fame- which is a Chilean possession.
