The idea that is central to both modernism and romanticism is the celebration of individuality and subjective experience. Both movements reject traditional norms and explore themes of self-expression, emotion, and personal vision in their respective art forms.

post-modernism
The movement that included art, philosophy, architecture, and literature in both Europe and America was the Romanticism movement. This movement emerged in the late 18th century and emphasized individualism, emotion, and the beauty of nature. It had a profound influence on various aspects of culture and society in both continents.

Both realism and romanticism are artistic movements that emerged in response to social, political, and cultural shifts. Both movements sought to reflect the world as it is, although from different perspectives. Realism focused on depicting everyday life and ordinary people, while romanticism emphasized emotion, imagination, and nature.
I recently took a college course titled "The Novel from 1700 to 1900" and for our final paper we were to show how Gothicism was used as a vehicle to move from Romanticism to Modernism. While Modernism is not the same as Realism, they do share many common qualities. The first three books of the course leading from Romanticism to Gothicism were Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe, Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, and Hard Times by Charles Dickens. The novels that started the height of Gothicism and gradually led to Modernism were The Monk by Matthew Lewis, Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë, and finally The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. While all of the novels mentioned arguably have some elements of Romanticism, Gothicism, and Modernism, upon reading them you can see how they style of each book shows a gradual movement from Romanticism to Modernism. both were artistic movements. romanticism was generally ending around the 1850s when realism gained popularity. where romanticism was a reaction against scientific rationallization of nature, realism thought truth could be found through the sences.
