"This was her way of putting her husband to the test."
Penelope does not believe that it is really her husband who has returned. She thinks that a God or something else may be pretending to be Odysseus. Since he constructed the bed himself of course he would know that it was built into a tree truck and essentially cannot be moved. The test is her passively saying that the bed is going to be moved, if Odysseus would not have questioned the moving of the bed then it would of lead her to believe that it indeed was not Odyssues. The "test" was a way for her to find out if it was truly Odyssues.
In Greek mythology, Melantho was one of Penelope's maids in Homer's epic poem "The Odyssey." She is known for her disloyalty to Penelope and her affair with the suitors. Ultimately, she meets a tragic end when she is hanged for her betrayal.

Penelope was a hero for many reasons: 1) She stayed loyal to her husband. 2) She managed to trick the suitors. 3) She questioned Odysseus till the end. She was cautious and proceeded carefully. 4) She managed to raise her son alone and keep her estate.
At the end of Homer's "The Odyssey," Odysseus returns home to Ithaca after a long journey filled with trials and adventures. He discovers that his home has been overrun by suitors vying for his wife Penelope's hand. With the help of his son Telemachus and a few loyal servants, Odysseus devises a plan to defeat the suitors, ultimately reclaiming his home and reuniting with Penelope. The story concludes with the restoration of order in Ithaca and the reestablishment of Odysseus's rightful place as king.
