What is a whakatuki?

Whakatuki ( Maori Proverbs) play a large part in the Maori's culture being used in everyday speech and reference points in speeches. They are a poetic form of the Maori language often expressing historical events and holistic perspectives with an underlying message that are very influential within the Maori culture.
