In echoing green 1st stanza the poet is talking about life or in simple words we can say that it is the beginning of life and is the morning of life that is that the children have woke up and are ready to play. The birds are chirping, sun is shining bright and the merely bells are ringing. It is a very beautiful scenery.

In the 2nd stanza the poet is trying to say that it is the evening of life. The old folks that are the old people sitting under the oak tree are remembering there times when they used to be young also used to play. they are missing there youth

because they are quite old and death is on there door steps.

At the the poet is trying to say that it is the night of life that is that the children are tired and don't want to play more, the birds are also tired and don't want to sing more and the merry have also stopped ringing. The children are now resting in there mothers lap that is that our mother is earth and earth's laps are grave so now those children are dead and the death has entered in there house and taken them away from the world.
