the meaning of the poem is basically represents life and death . "them" and "they" are representing the people . because rose is a plant and bird is an animal and a lad is human they ( the people) is telling the narrrator theres others rose , bird , lad, and so on. this makes the reader to have sense that they cant justicefiy whom they feel / others cant justify who otheres feel instead of saying theres others.
