In "The Alchemist" by Paulo Coelho, the parallel between reading and alchemy lies in the transformative power of both. Just as alchemy seeks to transform base metals into gold, reading allows individuals to transform their thoughts, perspectives, and lives through the knowledge and wisdom gained from books. Both reading and alchemy are about personal growth, enlightenment, and the pursuit of one's true destiny.

He WAS real and was a very talented alchemist, among many other occupations. He claimed to have discovered the key of eternal life through his alchemy. Many people and historians say he may still be alive. Many others believe he is dead, for he was born in 1330 and said to have died in 1418. Personally I believe either, alchemy is very powerful and very well could have him still living today. I recommend reading 'The Alchemist', it talks about Nicholas Flamel. I would also recommend reading the Wikipedia pages on 'Alchemy' and 'Nicholas Flamel'.
