Ancient Greeks wanted to explain why plants died or lost their leaves in the winter. Demeter was the mother of Persephone. When Hades kidnapped her daughter, she was angry and she let the plants die. Zeus made Hades bring Persephone back. But because she had eaten six seeds, she had to stay with Hades for six months of the year but would live with her mother on the surface of Earth the rest of the year.
hello
The story has not changed.
Demeter: to explain the growth of life on Earth. Persephone: to explain the changing seasons every year in Persephone being Queen of the Underworld while the plants die, and goddess of Spring on Earth during her ascension.
The story of Persephone explains the changing seasons. When Persephone is in the underworld with Hades, her mother Demeter mourns, causing winter. When Persephone returns to the surface, Demeter rejoices, bringing spring and summer.
To take Persephone, daughter of Demeter and Zeus, to the Underworld as wife.
In Greek mythology, Demeter is the goddess of harvest. Her daughter is Persephone. Hades is the god of the underworld and he kidnapped Persephone. To make a long story short, there was an agreement made between Hades and Demeter to share Persephone. When Persephone is with Hades, Demeter is so sad that nothing will grow and that is why winter happens.
Persephone was Demeter's daghter, so when hades kidnapped her, of course Demeter wanted her back. Eventually, the time Persephone spent with Demeter and the time with Hades was divided. When Persephone was with Hades, it was Winter. When she was with Demeter, it was Summer.
Persephone's parents are Zeus and Demeter.
Demeter adores Persephone because persephone is her daughter and the official start of spring
The inciting incident in the story of Persephone and Demeter occurs when Hades, the god of the underworld, abducts Persephone while she is picking flowers in a meadow. This act of kidnapping causes Demeter, Persephone's mother and the goddess of agriculture, to fall into deep grief and abandon her duties, leading to the barren winter months. Demeter's search for her daughter sets off a series of events that ultimately affect the fertility of the earth and the cycle of the seasons.
