The kingdom of Heorot
As a result of Grendel's attack, King Hrothgar's warriors became fearful and the once-boisterous mead hall fell silent and abandoned. Grendel's presence instilled a sense of dread and despair in the kingdom, impacting its people and their way of life.
The monster Grendel is causing havoc in Hrothgar's kingdom in Beowulf. Grendel terrorizes the kingdom by attacking the warriors in Heorot, the mead hall.
Grendel seized 30 thanes in his first attack on Heorot Hall.
Grendel attacks for 12 winters in the epic poem "Beowulf".
Grendel killed one of Beowulf's men before trying to attack Beowulf himself. He suprised Grendel with a strong choke-hold. While fighting, they damaged the mead-hall extensively and Beowulf pulled Grendel's arm from his socket. The arm acted as another trophy for the mead-hall. Grendel killed many more of Hrothgar's men.
Beowulf and his men travel to Hrothgar's kingdom to kill Grendel.
Beowulf first fights Grendel, a strong monster. Beowulf finds his weapons do no work against Grendel. He then fights Grendel with his hands. Beowulf rips off Grendel's arm and he runs away.
Grendel's Claw (Arm) & Hroghgar's Closest Friend
( I assumeyou mean from the epic poem, it is diffeent in the movie) It was basically a sneak attack, becasue Grendel broke into Heorot at night and killed thirty danes. He drank their blood and brought their head shome as trophies.
The scene depicts the aftermath of Grendel's attack, with the people in mourning and shock from the destruction and loss of life. The scene sets the tone for the somber and fearful atmosphere that now permeates the community.
I believe, the first to meet him, is the guard or sentry guy who guards the shore. He asks Beowulf why he is here, and prepares to fight him (thinking it was some invasion attack) when Beowulf replies that he is here to fight the monster Grendel.---- This is based off from my memory and this site:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beowulf
Beowulf hears of the troubles in Denmark with Hrothgar's kingdom, so Beowulf comes over to help the king out, along with his closest and chosen companions. ( Spoiler: They do it so that they can end the life of the ogre, Grendel, and restore confidence and hapiness to the kingdom.)
