Why are your shadows long in the daytime?

Generally speaking in the middle latitudes it is because the angle of the sun is lower in the sky later in the day (in most areas, in areas with "midnight sun" type regimes this will not necessarily apply). The lower angle of the sun creates the longer shadow.

Because of the angle of the sun with the earth. When we have an equinox (sun is directly above the equator) at noon it will look as if you don't have a shadow if you live around the equator
