“ It smells like toenails” is my first thought whenever I pass by my sister’s junkyard of a room, and catch a glance of it the odd time her door is open. As soon as you enter the room, a penetrating aroma of unwashed clothes and a sweaty gym bag envelop one’s nostrils like a helpless animal trapped in quicksand. It looks as if a bomb has been thrown into her bedroom, pushing the furniture and needed items out of order and into a mess, creating the catastrophe. Clothes, both dirty and clean mixed together like a marble cake, piled on her dresser and overflowing onto the sea abais of crumbs and miscellaneous objects called the floor, looking worse than a polluted lake. Cups and bowls with unfinished snacks left inside for days on end, creating a very unappetizing smell to go along with the toenail scent coming from sweaty socks and her gym bag. These dishes are scattered throughout the room usually set on top of shelves and dressers, and sometimes even left on the ground beside her bed if there is no room for the dishes to be on furniture, attracting ants and other hungry insects to join the party. As you turn to see the bed, you will notice how dirty the room really is as sheets and pillows that were once arranged neatly are now rolled together from being unmade for so long. Now creating an avalanche of blankets resting at the end of her bed, ready to pounce on anyone who gets too close. Beside her bed resting on a nearby nightstand, is where her pink dollarama candle sits. Pathetically burning a faint rose scent to cover up the fact that her room stinks, just like grandpa’s dirty feet after working all day.
