He might be Christian, but that doesn't stop him from acknowledging and writing about things, and other beliefs, that are evident in the wider world around us.

For example, The Bible book 'Acts of the Apostles', doubtless written by a Christian author, mentions the pagan goddess 'Artemis of the Ephesians' five times in Acts Chapter 19.

In this case it is a simple narrative of events of the time, and records what people were doing and saying. How could the writer do this without using the name of the pagan goddess?

Similarly, a Christian writer might well be writing an informative work about pagan beliefs, maybe contrasting them with Christian beliefs. By being specific in identifying particular pagan 'idols' and the like, the author is helping his readers to use their powers of perception in order to make informed decisions for themselves. And who knows, maybe some of his readers actually 'worship' the very 'pagan idols' that the author identifies, and his readers will thus more readily engage with what the writer is talking about.

Taking it a stage further, a writer 'writes'. A poet writes poetry. His poems may or may not be about things that are dear to his heart. Even so, it is perhaps extremely doubtful that a Christian poet would write a poem that actually encourages the reader to worship a pagan idol!

Similarly, consider a 'Christian' musician. Some great musical works are actually about pagan/mythical heroes. Would a 'Christian' musician play a work about such a subject matter? The decision rests with the musician himself, and his conscience! He may feel that the work is not actually encouraging pagan worship, and that it contains no blasphemy, and that it is purely the melody that is beautiful, albeit that it may be on a 'questionable' subject matter. He may also have taken into account other people's feelings about him performing a 'pagan oriented' piece of music. He will have to decide, on balance, what the better option would be.

On the other hand, there may be 'Christian' musicians, writers, poets etc who are only 'nominal' 'Christians.' Consequently they may not be particularly concerned about all the related issues.

Suppose a 'Christian' child were asked to write, in a secular school, and as part of an English writing lesson, a poem about a Greek hero. Would he/she do it? Maybe they would, and maybe they wouldn't. What would you do?
