Mosley was a clever operator. he took pains to preserve the outer image of being patriotic and loyal- in fact attracted a number of former Army officers ( as he himself was) and slogans such as ( Fascism is Popular Patriotism!) were widely carried in sandwich board fashion at rallies, etc. Like, in a sense Norman Thomas ( US Socialist) Mosley aimed at operating within the structure of the British Parliament- but things got a little ugly- Mosley used an insignia that was a Flash-S banner ( one half of the German SS insignia, so to speak!) the theme song of the movement was a parody of the German march- the Horst Wessel Lied, with, of course altered lyrics. The last verse could also be held to be pro-White Russia- with talk of (our Race Reborn!) JH"mm sounds like somebody celebrated in song. Mosely was in protective custody from l940-43 ( some accounts say later) after the war he attempted to revive his movement, calling it the Union Movement- the Fascist angles being toned down. If you look at him in context, he seems almost like an independent politician- but not really a bad guy, let alone a traitor.
