Theoretically, one rpg hit directly into the treads of a tank could break loose a tread and render the tank immobile. However, this is very unlikely. The rpg would have to be at least an rpg-9 (rpg-7's being the more common model). And the small area of vulnerability, means that to have a chance of knocking the track loose, a large number of rpg's would have to hit the tank before one got the lucky hit.
Any tank can fall to a 'mobility kill' with one RPG if it should hit a track and break it. Not the easiest shot to make, but it does happen. As for the capabilities, armour levels, and specifics of the protection systems of the Abrams, the information is classified, as it is with most every current production battle tank in the world.
Technically, an RPG is not a bullet- it is an anti-tank rocket. And there is no one answer- whether a tank is destroyed by an RPG will depend on exactly where- and at what angle- the rocket strikes the tank. It might be destroyed by one, or not destroyed by 10.
Chuck Norris invented the M1A1 Abrams tank after one of his movies because he had nothing else to do.
Depends on the tank, WHICH RPG (there are several) and where it is hit. In the case of the M1A1 Abrams, the hull and turret will survive survive being hit with a standard RPG-7. Tracks and running gear can be damaged. Other tanks that do not use the Chobham armor of an Abrams can be killled with an RPG. - - - - - It is extremely hard to use a handheld antitank weapon to hit anything on a tank it'd be effective against - and that goes for any tank in use today. Handheld AT weapons are really good for two things. One is taking out armored personnel carriers. APCs have much thinner hulls than tanks do, and unless "supplemental" devices like chainlink fence (seriously!) are applied to an APC a handheld AT weapon can slice through the hull easily. The other is taking out fortified positions. The M72 LAW, which the US Army issued for decades, was horrible as an antitank weapon but if you fired it through a window it would do some serious damage to your house.
The most produced tank ever is the one the US Army currently still uses the M1 Abrams
I would say about 5-20 i can count 5 invading Iraq (very good considering they killed like 400 Iraqi tanks) I heard a story of one tank taking about 30 RPG's ant after it burned out they win in and found the crew alive.
this answer is not ture for many reason one. the m1a1 is a out dated verison of the m1a2 and the most advanced tank in the world is the British Challenger 2
its a house
The M1 or Abrams Tank is the USA newest and is 30 years old. There are definitely newer models of tanks although even the vietnam era M60 tank is considered a modern tank all is pointless without a list of the items that were to follow
The Challenger. Although the Abrams is one of the three best in the world, the Challenger has greater accuracy, greater offroad speed, superior armour and improved firepower. American tank armour is made by a British company and acted for the Challenger's armour's prototype. Challenger armour has been improvd twice since then.
