Tradition is that Mary, the sinless virgin mother did not die. Because she was born without original sin (the state of sinfulness passed down from Adam and Eve) she did not die. Rather she transcended directly into heaven, in a manner similar to Jesus' resurrected body transcending into heaven. Death, labor pains, and original sin are all affects of "eating the apple."
