Economic aid to Greece, particularly through the Marshall Plan in the late 1940s, was crucial in stabilizing the country after World War II and the Greek Civil War. By providing financial support for reconstruction and development, the U.S. aimed to strengthen the Greek economy and reduce poverty, which were conditions that fostered communist influence. This aid helped bolster the pro-Western government, enabling it to counteract communist insurgents, thus curtailing the spread of communism in the region. Overall, the infusion of aid contributed to political stability and economic resilience, undermining the appeal of communist ideologies.
in 1947 in Greece and turkey communism was a threat so president Truman established the Truman doctrine which provided economic and military aid to countries thretened by communism

The US gave military aid to countries in the fight against the spread of Communist under the Truman Doctrine. The first countries to receive aid under the Truman Doctrine were Greece and Turkey.
Under the Truman Doctrine, the U.S. offered military aid to countries such as Greece and Turkey that were fighting communism inside their borders.
The Truman Doctrine was meant to help any non-communist country to resist communist pressure by providing economic and military aid. It was announced by US President Truman during the Greek Civil War; the United States sent $400 million in economic aid to Greece to help the government defeat the communist forces attempting to overthrow them. It also was the basis for the support during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. This shifted the American policy towards communism from détente, or the easing of strained tensions, to containment. It also is often used to mark the beginning of the Cold War. The major recipients of the aid were Greece and Turkey, and later South Korea and Vietnam.
The U.S. sent economic and military aid to Greece and to Turkey. The Truman Doctrine was designed to contain the expansion of the Soviet Union and Communism; therefore, the first phase of the Cold War is called containment.

No, Congress did not see the need to send Greece and Turkey aid. Truman argued that if they were not given aid by the U.S, they may fall to communism.
Truman Doctrine
On the surface, the Truman Doctrine was to offer military and economic aid to the fighters attempting to repel Soviet backed forces in Greece and Turkey. However, the Truman Doctrine also allowed the U.S. and its allies to practice what would be called the Containment Theory. The theory said that Communism had to be contained in countries already exposed to Communism so they would not spread. If they spread to one country, the surrounding countries would also pick up Communism, in a domino effect that would cause the entire world to be Communist. This is a partial cause of the Vietnam War, attempting to aid in economic and military means, the South Vietnamese, who were trying to keep Communism contained to the north.
