HOW LEGALISM BEGAN...
Legalism was created in China by Shang Yang and was a strong belief that the Chinese government followed, yet legalism had'nt exercised over to other reigons for quite a while yet. Legalism began with strict laws that had to be obeyed by everyone, but if there was someone who did'nt follow these laws, that person would have to face the consequences with punishment. It was believed that legalism had to take place because humans were 'fundamentally base and selfish,' so legal action had to take place to basically straighten everyone out and to create an understanding that people could'nt just do whatever they please whenever they want.
Legalism was the political philosophy undergirding the Qin Empire of Shih Huangdi. It spread to Southeast Asia by way of Chinese contacts with Southeast Asian peoples, especially the Vietnamese, who came under Chinese Direct Occupation several times in history.
Legalism is not a religion. Legalism is a philosophy
By 600 CE, Legalism had primarily spread in China, particularly during the Qin Dynasty (221-206 BCE), where it became the official state philosophy. Its principles, emphasizing strict laws and centralized authority, influenced governance and administration throughout imperial China. While its prominence declined after the Qin, its ideas persisted in various forms within Chinese political thought and practice. Legalism did not spread widely outside of China, remaining largely a Chinese philosophical movement.
Legalism is a Chinese philosophy.
