Despite what we are told during the substandard government education most of us have received, a republic is the form of government we have in the U.S..

The public elect representatives to make decisions for them.

This differs from s Democracy because, a Democracy is essentially mob rule. In a Democracy "the people" directly make decisions, this is very often dangerous (just ask the Greeks) because after a period of time, the Public learns they can get whatever they want as long as enough of their neighbors go along with them.
