Queen Elizabeth II has, in the past, opted to use a stylised representation of St.Edward's Crown, made in 1661, which is said to be made of gold melted from King Alfred's Crown and both heavy and difficult to wear. The Imperial State Crown, made in 1937 for King George VI, is worn after the conclusion of the Coronation ceremony when the monarch leaves Westminster Abbey, and also at the annual State Opening of Parliament.
Gordon Jacob was an English composer who lived from 1895 to 1984. One of his claims to fame is that he wrote an arrangement of the British National Anthem (God Save the Queen) for the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953, which was described as "a trumpet heavy fanfare."

At Queen Victoria's coronation in 1838, three main things went wrong. Firstly, the anointing oil was accidentally placed too far away from the altar, causing a delay in the ceremony. Secondly, the Archbishop of Canterbury struggled to open the oil bottle, further prolonging the proceedings. Lastly, the peers of the realm had difficulty carrying the heavy canopy over the queen, leading to a rather clumsy and awkward moment during the ceremony.
