Mr. Biden resigned the Delaware Senate seat he had held for parts of seven full six year terms (he was reelected Delaware Senator in the same 2008 election that saw him elected Vice President, but only served 13 days of that term) on 15 January 2009, preparatory to being sworn in as Vice President.
