According to an October 2006 estimate by the government census bureau, there 'were' approximately 17,149,000 currently enrolled undergraduate and graduate students. 700 billion dollars divided equally amongst these students is $40,818.70, this is more than many middle class Americans yearly salaries. If you really wanted to stimulate the economy, why not give all the college students currently enrolled $40,000 each as a 'student loan' bailout fund with loose strings attached? It is one of the most frivolous Demographics when it comes to spending money. The effects would be near immediate and rather long lasting, many would blow all 40 grand in a month, the slightly more frugal would spend it over a few years, and a few would actually use it to pay off student loans and thus have more money to spend when the get their first job. At least, it sounds good to me... but I am biased, after all, I am your stereotypical Pizza consuming college student with empty pockets.
