The word Church in The Bible means the represented body of Christ his saved children here on earth we the children of God are in one body and that is Christ Jesus. We Christians are the Church. The church is sometimes miss used when talking about a material building this is not "THE CHURCH" but merrily the place where the Church meets. John 14:2 says in my Fathers HOUSE are many Mansions meaning dwelling places and the first place that we dwell in is in the body of Christ Jesus the second dwelling place will be in Paradise then finally we will be called to be with God in Heaven our final resting place.
(1)Matt 16:18- And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.
(2)Matt 18:17- And if he refuse to hear them, tell it to the church. But if he refuses even to hear the church; let him be to you like a heathen and a tax collector.
Answer:
"Congregation"... "Group"... "Assembly"... "Cadre," etc.
As stated above, Jesus says: "... I will build My church..." -- My Congregation.
"Cadre" is an excellent word to apply here:
CADRE: "A nucleus or core group especially of trained personnel able to assume control and train others; broadly, a group of people having a unified relationship."
The Spirit of Jesus Christ, living, dwelling within the spirits [hearts and minds] of each of the "personnel" of His "church" is their unifying relationship.
Jesus is the "Builder." He is the "Foundation" of it... the "Rock" upon which it's being constructed.
"Whosoever cometh to Me, and heareth My sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like:
"He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and LAID THE FOUNDATION ON A ROCK: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was FOUNDED UPON A ROCK." (Luke 6:47-48)
The Bible, is the "text book" for their schooling and training. It contains the "Wisdom and Knowledge" of God [through faith] that's not otherwise discernible to the natural carnal human mind and heart. It's Jesus Christ, the "Builder," the "Rock" and the "Light" who reveals to His cadre the understanding of the Bible hidden from the world [Luke 24:45].
Through the revealed understanding of the Spirit of the "Builder," the Bible is: "...profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of God may be [BECOME, BE MADE] perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works." (II Tim.3:16-17)
God's church is being trained by Jesus Christ to qualify for the offices and positions and openings [mansions] that His "Father's House" needs filled for the smooth transition for the removal of man's governments and the establishment of the Kingdom of God on earth when He returns with it.
Jesus Christ is preparing God's Children [His Cadre] TO RULE THE WORLD, when the time comes for God's Government to be established on earth.
Paul, upset that one group of Jesus' "Cadre" were taking one another to public hearings and civil courts to settle their differences... reminded them of their vocation -- about WHAT THEY WERE BEING TRAINED FOR!
"If any of you has a dispute with another, dare he take it before the ungodly for judgment instead of before the saints? DO YOU NOT KNOW THAT THE SAINTS WILL JUDGE THE WORLD? And if you are to judge the world, are you not competent to judge trivial cases?
"Do you not know that we shall judge angels? How much more the things of this life?
"Therefore, if you have disputes about such matters, appoint as judges even men of little account in the church! I say this to shame you. Is it possible that there is nobody among you wise enough to judge a dispute between believers?
"But instead, one brother goes to law against another -- and this in front of unblievers! The very fact that you have lawsuits among you means you have been completely defeated already. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be cheated?
"Instead, you yourselves cheat and do wrong, and you do this to your brothers. Do you not know that the wicked shall not inherit the Kingdom of God?" (I Cor.6:1-9 NIV)
In this case, this would fall under "reproof and correction" and "instruction in righteousness" for which Paul's inspired Words of the "Builder" should be profitable to His cadre -- then and now.
The meaning of the church of God is for its preparation to SAVE THE WORLD. To co-rule the nations of the world with Christ when He comes, so that they might, with unity and of one Spirit, train the nations of the world in God's ways, then, from the same text book from which the church is learning, now.
"...the saints [the church] of the Most High shall take the Kingdom, and possess the Kingdom for ever, even for ever and ever." (Dan.7:18)
"...the Ancient of Days came, and judgment was given unto the saints [the church; cadre] of the Most High; and the time came that the saints [the church; cadre] possessed the Kingdom." (verse 22)
The "Builder" says to His cadre: "...he that overcometh, and keepeth My works [the Wisdom, Knowledge, Understanding and obedience to the Bible] unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron..." (Rev.2:26-27).
As Paul pointed out to the cadre in Corinth... and which so many deceived denominations of Christ-professing cadres don't seem to know, today -- the church of God should be getting ready to "wield the very power of God in their hands [and hearts and minds]" when they will be literally working side by side with the King of kings to SAVE AND HEAL THE WORLD.
Jesus Christ is "building His church": "...and hast made us [His church] unto our God KINGS and PRIESTS: and we shall reign on the earth." (Rev.5:10)
"Then shall the King say unto them on His right hand, Come, ye blessed of My Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world." (Matt.25:34)
"...and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years... they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years." (Rev.20:4-6)
It's not a mission of born-again leisure and gratuitous self-satisfaction for the end goal of heavenly retirement. It's preparation and training for the day when God's Children will wield the power of their Father to the hilt on earth. They will establish the doctrines of the nations on earth, reprove and correct the errant thoughts and actions of the nations, provide the nations with firm, loving and disciplined instruction in righteousness, that all the deceived, ignorant and blinded nations might eventually "become or be made perfect"... be born into God's Family with them... and be thoroughly furnished unto all good works [genuinely love and care for one another]... be respectful of all that God has made... and all that He shall remake.
"...Behold, I make all things new..." (Rev.21:5).
That's what the word "church" means in the Bible. It makes one wonder if the modern denominations of professing Christianity have read Paul's admonishment and know what it means... or truly know their potential.
