Technically Jamestown and any governing body at Jamestown was sanctioned by the King...a monarch. A monarchy that allows assemblies to be formed is a limited or constitutional monarchy. As such, by definition, Jamestown couldn't be a republic because a republic implies the absence of a monarch...limited or otherwise. Jamestown therefore was a representative democracy.
