When young (teens/twenties) she was petite and slender. She had long red/gold ringlets, a fair complexion, blue eyes, snub nose and long fingers. She was considered to be very beautiful and ballads were written about her beauty.

When she was older (late thirties) her hard life took its toll on her appearance. She was very thin- described as emaciated, tight lipped, still had her fair complexion, had a piercing gaze- she became very short sighted and had some wrinkles caused by stress that made her look older than she was. Contrast to when she was 24 and thought to look 18. She was not considered ugly in her later life but was no longer considered beautiful either.
