The idea of a complete democracy scared the framers. They feared that the majority would have complete control over every aspect of the government making things very one sided. The idea of a small republic was also somewhat nerve wrecking because after leaving such tyrannic rule they didn't think trusting government with every decision was a good idea either--elected or not! The key was to find a happy medium where the aspects of direct voter input from democracy and constituency from republic were both thrown into the equation.

That would be an INDIRECT DEMOCRACY. The most common forms of indirect democracy are Presidential Republics and Parliamentary Democracies.
Limited democracy is the most popular form of government in the world. Various forms of limited democracy include representative democracy (republic) or constitutional monarchy.Full, or direct, democracy was created before limited democracy. Direct democracy was one of the various forms of government present in Ancient Greece, but eventually faded from usage. Direct democracy is when the citizens vote on everything. Democracy was revived by the Roman Republic, where they used limited democracy instead of direct democracy. Here, instead of citizens making the decisions themselves, they elect representatives to make decisions for them. Eventually, the Roman Republic turned into the Roman Empire, where there was an emperor and authoritarian government. Democracy did not appear until the Age of Enlightenment, where political philosophers created new forms of government, most reflecting limited democracy. The first country to become a limited democracy as a whole was Great Britain. Great Britain had transformed from a monarchy into a limited, or constitutional, monarchy, in which it had added a parliament. The first country to become a republic, taking ideas from the Romans and setting the stage for what would become the world's most popular system of government, was the United States.
The most Americans when ask would say that the United States' form of government is a Democracy, that is all adult people have an equal say in the decisions that affect their lives, but of course they would be incorrect because the United States was formed as a Republic form of government in where the people vote for and elect their representatives to fill the offices of state.

Most Germans did not believe in democracy ~ Apexvs.com The people did not support the government. The German economy was crippled by reparations.
It is not a Democracy, and it is not a democratic republic. It is a REPUBLIC. Period. Lying politicians want you to think it's a democracy so they can systematically destroy your rights. The people own the country, yes, but as long as a politician stays within the Constitution (NONE DO ANYMORE), then all is well and there is no danger. At the moment with national gun control debates, the many people think they get a say in legislation, and they think just because they want something they'll get it because it's a "democracy."In other words, yes it is a republic and nothing but, and I beg you not to fall into this mind trap of gun control and "Democracy."
Both. The US federal and state governments, and most county and city governments, are republics. As the term "republic" can have many meanings ("Islamic republic", "Soviet socialist republic"), the US governments are more accurately described as constitutional representative democracies: Representatives are chosen directly by the people, and the constitution prevents abuse by majorities. Article IV of the Constitution of the United States guarantees a "Republican" form of government to each state. In a few places, a direct democracy exists, at times. This is most famously the case in the Town Meetings held annually by small towns, but not cities, in New England.
Parliamentary democracy is the same as a democracy which is most countries in the world, such as UK, Australia, South Africa, South Korea, U.S.A, however be warned countries with the word democratic in their title are unlikely to be democratic eg. the democratic republic of the Congo
