Colonization in Botswana, primarily by the British, led to significant social, economic, and political changes. The establishment of colonial rule disrupted traditional governance structures and land use, often marginalizing local leaders and communities. Economically, the introduction of cash crops and livestock farming transformed local economies, but also created dependencies on colonial markets. Additionally, while colonization brought some infrastructure development, it also laid the groundwork for social inequalities that persisted post-independence.

Sid Meier's Colonization happened in 1994.
The British, it was called Betchuanaland. Bechuanaland was never a colony as such, it was a "protectorate" of Britain. In a nutshell, the people of Bechuanaland requested British protection from the South African Boers, the British did not want the Boers or Rhodes, who at that stage was in Rhodesia, moving into Bechuanaland, so this was an arrangement that was beneficial to both the people of Bechuanaland and the British.
