The first Stuart monarch, James I of England and VI of Scotland, succeeded to the throne of England when Elizabeth I died. He was the son of Mary Queen of Scots by her second husband Lord Darnley, and great-great grandson of Henry VIII's sister Margaret. In all there were seven Stuart monarchs: James I, Charles I, Charles II, James II, William III and Mary II and Anne. The period from 1649 to 1660 was an interregnum (time without a monarch), that saw the development of the Commonwealth under Oliver Cromwell.

King James of Scotland hence the name of the King James version of the Bible.
This was James 1st, who came to the throne in 1603- his predecessor, Elizabeth 1st, died unmarried and childless, which brought to an end the Tudor dynasty (which was Welsh in origin). In those days, Scotland was still a seperate kingdom, so if an English monarch died without a successor then the throne of England passed to the Scottish king. This was James- in Scotland, he was the 6th king to be called James, but only the first one in England, so for that reason he is sometimes known as 'James the 6th and 1st'. James's surname was Stuart, so his reign ushered in the Stuart dynasty. He died in 1625 at the age of 58, and was succeeded by his son Charles 1st.
they were both king =))))) king james and king charles were both kings of england and apaart of the stuart dynasty
Yes, James I of England was a Stuart. He was the first monarch of the Stuart dynasty to rule England, ascending to the throne in 1603 after the death of Elizabeth I. He was previously James VI of Scotland, uniting the crowns of England and Scotland. His reign marked the beginning of a new era in British history.
