India USA Canada UK and many more Virtually all modern Democracies are really representative republican democracies. Modern society is too complex and large to allow for direct democracy on any size about a city-state (that is, a few 10s of thousands of people, and even that's pushing it - a few thousand is generally the maximum effective direct democracy size).
Citizens elect leaders who vote on the issues in a representative democracy, and citizens vote on the issues in a direct democracy. A representative democracy is modern, and a direct democracy is ancient. A representative democracy works better in large groups, and a direct democracy works better in small groups. Citizens' desires are ignored in a representative democracy, and citizens' desires have a better chance of being heard in a direct democracy
It was not - it was direct democracy where the citizens met in fortnightly assembly and decided on issues which the council implemented. Modern democracy is representative democracy, where elected representatives carry out the functions of governance.
We learnt the their model of direct democracy did not work. The gullible people were led astray by demagogues which led to great loss for the people. Our modern representative democracy, for all it's faults, puts a space between poor or self-interested leadership and impulsive action by the people.
Yes, direct democracy is very common. It is almost never seen in modern government, as it is extremely inefficient, but it is very common in small groups when making decisions.
considering that a presidential democracy is when the power is held by an elected president you can use it like.... the citizens voted for the president because their government was a presidential democracy.
Direct democracy is the governing of a people BY the people. All members of a group, rather than representatives, meet to make decisions, observing political equality and majority rule. An example of direct or participatory democracy would be a town meeting. Most towns allow the members of the town to participate in the meetings, which include voting on specific issues. These meetings allow a community to make decisions together.

Direct democracy is most famously associated with ancient Athens, where citizens participated directly in decision-making. Repetitive democracy, a term less commonly used, can refer to modern representative democracies where citizens elect representatives to make decisions on their behalf, typically exercised through regular elections. Both forms emphasize citizen involvement, but direct democracy allows for more immediate participation compared to the representative nature of repetitive democracy.
