ministers get more say
In the Catholic church, lay ministers are not members of the episcopacy.
There are no ministers in the Seanad. There are 60 senators there, but none of them are ministers. Ministers are usually chosen from the Dáil, which has 166 members. There are 15 ministers.
A member of parliament (MP) is someone who has been elected to sit in Parliament. A minister is an MP with some executive power. All ministers are in charge of a department of the government. Together they make up the Cabinet, which the Prime Minister is in charge of.
The 28th Ministry consisted of thirty-two (32) ministers. Of these, twenty-seven (27) ministers were members of Cabinet. (The Secretaries of State served as ministers, but were not members of Cabinet.)
Members of the Canadian Cabinet are called Cabinet ministers (not all ministers necessarily sit in Cabinet).
Most Ministers and all parliamentary secretaries are Members of Parliament. Those Ministers who aren't MPs are Senators. The Governor General and civil servants are not Members of Parliament.
There is only one difference: heterosexual relationships are between members of the opposite sex, and homosexual relationships are between members of the same sex.
Members of the Senate, and ministers in Cabinet, are similar in that both are appointed by the Governor General on the advice of the prime minister.
Cabinet Ministers are primarily elected as Members of Parliament, and subsequently appointed by the Prime Minister as members of the cabinet.
Currently, there are thirty-seven ministers for Canada. Of these, all thirty-seven are currently members of the Cabinet. (It should be noted that not all members of the ministry have always been members of the Cabinet; the prime minister may recommend appointments of junior ministers who may not be included as members of the Cabinet.)
Ministers in countries such as the UK, are Ministers of the Crown, positions reserved specifically for those governments with a monarchy. Departments are basically the same things, in a democracy.
In India, Cabinet Ministers are responsible for government policy and various government duties. Ministers of the State, on the other hand, are considered junior ministers who assist a Cabinet Minister. Sometimes Ministers of the State can have independent charge of the ministry.
