What is the difference between the Greek form of democracy and the American form of democracy?

Modern Greece
The United States and the Republic of Greece are both representative republics. This makes them indirect democracies where all persons entitled to vote will vote for representatives who will then vote on all issues. The fundamental organizational difference is that the United States is a Presidential Republic with first-past-the-post voting system and Greece is a Parliamentary Republic with proportional representation. In the United States case, this means that (1) the executive and legislative branches are separate and have separate elections and (2) that the party that wins the most votes in each district wins 100% of the seats. In the Greek case, this means that (1) the executive and legislative branches are fused into one branch where the executives come out of the legislature and (2) that every party that wins more than small percentage of the voters in the national elections gains seats in accordance with that percentage. As a result, the US maintains a dominant two party system while Greece has several major parties across the political spectrum.
