Philippines were introduced to western paintings by the Spaniards in the 16th century. The paintings were used as a way to spread Christianity to the Philippines.
The Spaniards came to the Philippines because of these reasons:to spread the Roman Catholic religion;to find GOLD; andto expand their world empire. They used force as needed to gain control of this island group.
do u mean Jose rizal? he's considered a hero because he used his brain to fight the Spaniards. he just wrote some poems/stories about the Spaniards when the Spaniards are colonizing the Philippines when the Spaniards knew it, they killed Jose Rizal.
The Spaniards used military force, alliances with local leaders, and the establishment of colonial institutions to conquer the Philippines. They also utilized missionaries to spread Christianity through the establishment of churches, schools, and conversion of the local population. This process of conquest and Christianization played a significant role in shaping Philippine society and culture.
The Spaniards arrived in the Philippines in the year 1521 led by the Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan. Victoria was the ship used by Magellan when he came to the Philippines, it was a Spanish Carrack.
1. Because a conqueror named Ferdinand Magellan and his 350 men with their ships were led in the Philippines and it is because they only rely on the wind direction. 2. Instead of finding the island of moluccas in indonesia,(also known as island of spices) they were led by the direction of the wind to northwest. 3. Because the spaniards wanted to conquer more lands than Portuguese conquerors. 4. Because the Philippines has also full of natural resources which can be used by people. 5. In order to make Philippines have a Catholic Life.
The Spaniards were brutal taskmasters who used the Tagalog Lords or datus to provide them with such laborers as they might require for allowing them to continue to live and reign as a condition of the tribute they demanded. These people were not enslaved but their lives were always at risk and the lash or fear of it got the Spaniards what they wanted.
Before the Spaniards colonized the Philippines, the natives are quite literate and they have their own alphabet what is now known as "Baybayin" (see link). And yet when the Spaniards landed, they called the natives "Indio" meaning uncivilized. Because women don't wear top-clothings. But why would they. The Philippines being near the Equator is a very hot and humid country. And also because, the natives eats with their hands. This is still practice today. I myself eat with my hands when I'm home. How else can you commune with foods. The Filipinos revered their foods, because for us to eat, some fauna or some flora would give up their life. But today, because of refrigeration and mechanized farming, foods are no longer appreciated or revered. We take everything for granted. BTW, the name 'INDIO" is what is "INDIANS" to the NorthAmericans (USA).
Spaniards is the word used to describe a group of people from Spain. We stayed in the hostel with a large group of Spaniards, who were so friendly. The Spaniards are a funny bunch aren't they Geoffrey.
In the Philippines, there is a system they call Project NOAH - the Philippines is frequently visited by typhoons so they have developed this system to measure storm surges and other disturbances.
Dr. Jose Rizal, like the other Propagandists, used pen name in order to hide his identity to the spaniards who at that time are very powerful people in the Philippines. Dr. Jose Rizal used pen names in order to protect himself as well as his family and friends from the hatred of the Spaniards who are very much humiliated by the Noli Me Tangere, El Filibusterismo and other writings of Rizal.
