In the UK we are a common law Jurisdiction. Statute Legislation as defined in Blacks Law Dictionary (1933) is "A rule of society given the force of law by the consent of the governed". Common law means there has to be an injured party. Statute legislation is made by Parliament, and needs consent to be enforced.
