Even late into the 20th century, the Democratic party was still representing most of the south. It was the Republican party that pushed and passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as well as the one a hundred years prior. However with today's neaderthalic media and lack of education, the mindset of most (who are ignorant to history, which it a LOT of people in America) is Republican = Racist.
