John Brown would be considered a terrorist today. He was ardent in his opposition to slavery and when states were voting on allowing slavery in Kansas he and his 4 sons went across the border into Lawrence, Kansas attacking people with swords and hatchets. They killed several people and newspapers of the time called it BLOODY KANSAS. Later, he thought he could free slaves by arming them and taking over Harpers Ferry with 2 of his sons. The Union army eventually arrested him and hung him and his remaining son. As the Civil War began a song called John Brown's Body would become a popular song for the Union army to use as they marched.
