Between 1820 and 1900, approximately 400,000 Russian immigrants came to the United States. This wave included various groups, such as Jews fleeing persecution, political dissidents, and peasants seeking better economic opportunities. The largest influx occurred in the late 19th century, particularly due to the upheavals in Russia and the search for religious and political freedom.
Federalists were a prominent political party that died by 1820. With the federalists gone it left only the republican party in the United States.

The group that gained voting rights in the 1820's and 1830s were white male property owners. Prior to this period, voting rights were often limited to property-owning men of certain social and economic standing. The expansion of suffrage during this time was a result of democratic reforms aimed at increasing political participation.
Germans were attracted to the opportunity of land and religious freedom and pushed out of Europe by shortages of land and religious or political oppression. The German immigrants before 1850 were mostly farmers who were looking for the most productive land. But the largest numbers of German immigration to America occurred between 1820 and World War I. Nearly six million Germans came to the United States. From 1840 to 1880, they were the largest group of immigrants. Following the Revolutions of 1848 in the German states, a wave of political refugees fled to America.
