Gerald Ford was never elected as president of the United States. He became president in 1974 after Richard Nixon's resignation but had previously served as vice president without being elected to that position either, as he was appointed to fill Spiro Agnew's vacancy. Ford is the only U.S. president to have assumed office without being elected as either president or vice president.
