The UK has not joined the Euro because a number of economic conditions were not in synch with the rest of the Eurozone. In order words, the British economy is 'out of synch' with that of the Eurozone. Moreover, there is a lot of hostility in the UK to the European Union.
Britain will proably adopt the Euro at some time, however they have opted not to use it for now. When or if t that will change is unknown.

They did not. Great Britain ( now 2014) is still using the Pound. Only the Republic of Ireland switched to the Euro.
