British solders had to be whipped into shape. That was why Americans made better solders. He believed political parties would divide Americans into special interest groups. On the other hand, Jefferson saw that Congress levied taxes on people on the frontier, the group least able to pay them. He favored political parties giving the downtrodden a voice.

Why was Jefferson opposed against polictical parties? Actually it was Washington who was opposed to political parties. Jefferson helped start a new party to oppose the Federalist. Jefferson was in essence in favor of them instead of opposed to them.
