Most people already have money these days
True communism isn't practiced by a major power anywhere in the world today. Instead, the politico-economic system currently practiced by China (and which used to be employed by the Soviet Union) is called socialism.A very simplified explanation of the difference is that socialism is set up and controlled by a central government, whereas communism is controlled and maintained at the local (people) level. The only practical example of true communism can be found in the system known (appropriately enough) as a commune, similar to the kibbutz farming communities found in Israel.
Americans showed the fear of communism thorough the McCarthy trials. The trials tried many innocent people for fear they supported communism. Students practiced duck and cover drills in case of raids.

Forms of communism include Marxism, Marxist-Leninism, Stalinism, Maoism, and Trotskyism. Stalinism is still practiced in North Korea, Vietnam practices a form of Marxist-Leninism, and the Shining Path guerrillas of Peru still practice Maoism.
Propoganda was the main method used to deter communism in America. 'Witch Hunts' was also notoriously used to discourage people from Communism ideals.

"The type of communism practiced under Stalin did not benefit the people." "China turned to communism as an alternative to internal power struggles." "As a form of society, communism does not allow an individual to reap the fruits of his own labor."
A government that makes all of the decisions and consumer choices are given little attention is an authoritarian government. Communism is just one type of authoritarian government. This is a characteristic of communism, as opposed to capitalism. The drawback to the communist system of government, as usually applied, is that the consumer is subject to the decisions of the government, and therefore to the needs of the populace as a whole. This does not give the individual much control over the type of goods that he is provided. This is more precisely a command economy, which used to be practiced as "communism" in the Soviet Union.
Stalin was a state capitalist dictator; no connection to Communism.
