Nothing really could have been done to save megalodons because they went extinct around 1.5 million years ago and the first completely modern humans arrived about 4,000 years ago. So we could not have done anything. Mostly they died because of the climate. Thus, if the climate had not become that much more colder, they might not have become extinct, but then the world would be different now anyway, if the climate had not changed in that time.
