'Pre-historic' is a mileading term used to define a time that is believed to have "no history"...while 'pre-literate' refers to the era before the art of writing was invented, which means no human activities or events deemed important etc. where recorded. These events are therefore lost to the contemporary society. Pre-literate is therefore a more suitble term to describe events that took place before humans started keeping records and writing for posterity.
