There are always going to be a small number of people who think they are better than everyone else, and they are going to be snobs and make fun of you for trying to be like them. Think about whether you really want to be super-popular - or if you just want to have a smaller group of real friends you can count on to stick by you and not run off after the next "cool" person who wins the popularity contest. Personally, I'd rather not have to spend all my time trying to fit into what everyone else wants me to be just so I can consider myself "cool."
